Governor Cuomo has proposed adding Gowanus and 422 buildings along the canal to the list of state-designated historic districts. The designation may alter the path of development in the area by creating limitations to changes made to historic buildings.
The City recently rejected plans for a sewage storage tank to be located underneath a pool near Gowanus Canal. The holding tanks would gather storm water during storms until treatment facilities could manage to treat the wastewater. Feds say current City plans don’t reduce polluted water from entering the waterway enough to meet Clean Water Act accepted pollution levels in the Canal and could force the City into building holding tanks.
Looks like this huge development is going in…
There is a muskrat in the Gowanus Canal!
